Here’s an excerpt from my Valentine’s Day post on Life As A Human:

Are we des­tined to love the peo­ple we love, and be with the peo­ple we are with? I prob­a­bly wouldn’t have said so before I met the man I’ve lived with for the past 25 years. 

The first time I saw him, I was 21 and attend­ing a read­ing by poet P.K. Page at the Uni­ver­sity of Vic­to­ria. I tried to keep my mind on the read­ing but I kept feel­ing a strange pull from a few rows behind me. Finally I turned and looked.
